Hi! My name is Amelia but most of my friends call me Mae. I am pictured above with my family's pup Kiki while enjoying a PNW sunset. I grew up moving around the Puget Sound in Washington state and am currently living in Olympia, which is part of the traditional territory of the Nisqually people. The forests and water here are deep sources of inspiration for me.
I have picked up many mediums over the years and hope to continue to do so. I value art that helps me express a feeling either through the act of making it or the composition and content of the piece itself. My creative work is also a therapeutic practice, getting into the ‘flow’ state can be so beneficial to get through all sorts of challenges. I also see the value of creative work as therapeutic to behold for people who see something of themselves in a piece. Many of my more significant pieces are autobiographical, through making them I see and am able to better understand myself. My instinct to be very private has gotten in the way of me titling some of my personal pieces which would have given them a much deeper meaning within their context and story. It's never too late to reintroduce a piece with a title, right? I have high expectations of my work when it comes to quality, and a tendency to want to outdo myself with each new work. I try to restrain this value or it can keep me from making art as often as I would prefer. I also value using a variety of mediums both together and separately because they inform each other and I feel that it helps me think more creatively. |
